A major goal of our program is to maintain close communication among children, parents, caregivers, and the staff. Communication is sent home to parents on a frequent basis both by the administration and the teachers. Parent-teacher conferences are held twice a year in order to provide a formal meeting time for teachers and parents to discuss the child’s development. While these are our formally scheduled meetings, there is always an open dialogue between parents and the school.
The Playschool coordinates several events each year where parents are encouraged to attend. These include ParentTeacher Orientation, Curriculum Evening, the Winter Holiday program, and specific classroom curriculum events and outings. Parents are notified of these events in advance. If parents are interested in reading a book at circle time or coordinating a classroom activity for the children, we encourage them to speak directly to the classroom teachers so that a convenient date and time can be arranged.
Parents are also asked to serve on various committees during their time at the Playschool. The Playschool conducts one large fundraising event each year to support the School’s financial aid program and to make physical improvements to the School. This event is a combined silent and live auction of items that are donated by parents or local merchants. It is a highly coordinated event that results in a spirited evening of community spirit.
Other committees for parents to join are the Library committee, volunteering as a school representative at The Parents League, and becoming a class parent.
